Anna Öberg – “Ich Bin”

Anna Öberg is a musician, composer, and artist from Sweden who has become one of the most exciting artists in the Swedish synth genre. In 2015 she released the single “I Morgon”, following it up with the 10-track album “Härsknar” in 2017. Her second solo album “Vafan har jag gjort!” (What the fuck have I done!) was released in March of 2019 and shows the artist taking further steps into her very personal synth universe. The album was well recieved by both media and the audience. Once again she shows how synthesizers can sound innovative, modern and mind expanding. All of the lyrics on the album are in Swedish except for ”Ich Bin” which is written in German.

“Ich Bin” begins with rhythmic and peaceful tones bringing you into a dream like state. More sounds and layers fade in as the soft and angelic vocals join. The sound is that of classic electronica mixed with melodic songwriting, the steady and gigantic drums adding an epic quality to the track. The song uses both light and dark tones to create a unique feeling, making a whimsical and trippy musical story. Öberg has natural vocal and instrumental abilities that are applied to the electronic machines and utilizes their capabilities to their full potential while maintaining the musical integrity. With backing vocal help from Russ Rydén, the song gets more and more intense as it progresses, the rhythm getting faster and the synth tones getting darker, smoothly bringing you from the ethereal feeling from the beginning into a new and exciting place. Matched with video production by Öberg and Karl Gasleben, this song has a style all it’s own and pushes the genre in a new and interesting direction.
