MAKS – “Lay Down Low”

MAKS is a rock project from the Netherlands, initiated by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Maks A. After spending time touring the United States as a stand in drummer with a Dutch blues-rock band called JVT Band, Maks decided to begin writing, recording and producing his own music. Eventually releasing the album “3ft No Diving” in 2017. He describes his musical style being as David Bowie, Iggy Pop and 1980’s new wave artists, such as Magazine, Ultravox and Gary Numan mixed with the music he came to appreciate in a later stage of life: blues- and country-rock.

The second track on “3ft No Diving” is a high-energy rocker titled “Lay Down Low”. With verses full of complex chord changes and thick somewhat haunting vocal harmonies, the song blends a more melodic style with a punky attitude. The guitar work tosses back and forth from chucky to spacey to energetic and all around again on top of a pumping bass and lighting fast drum fills. On “3ft No Diving”, Maks was assisted by a number of fellow artists, such as guitar player, musical sparring partner and long-time friend Peter Barnouw, dutch guitar hero Jeroen van Tuijl and Kentucky based guitar virtuoso Tommy Stillwell.
