Phoxjaw – “Lottery”

Bristol based rock outfit Phoxjaw have built up a solid reputation in the short time since they formed in the Summer of 2016 with the release of their debut A/B side single released via Pale Wizard recordings on limited 10” vinyl. October 2017 saw the digital release of the highly anticipated single ‘Lottery’, which received great acclaim from the likes of Headliner Magazine, Total Guitar Magazine, Kerrang! Radio, Scuzz TV and BBC Introducing. In the short time since their inception they have played across the UK alongside worldwide renowned acts such as Black Foxxes, Black Tusk, and Avon (Alfredo Hernandez of Queens of the Stone Age). The band comprises of vocalist/bassist Danny Garland, guitarists Josh Gallop and Glenn Hawkins, drummer Kieran Gallop and as of 2017 features the addition of keys and synth player Huw Allen who brings an added dimension to their latest offerings and live shows. Their sound is most reminiscent to the likes of At The Drive In and Deftones, their added melodic tenacity and driving riffs mixed with their ferocious energy on stage, making them a true force to be reckoned with. Phoxjaw’s heavily distorted sounds coupled with their intense lyrics and emotive vocals have seen them championed by the likes of Kerrang Radio’s Alex Baker who praises their ‘cataclysmic riffs’, as well as Scuzz’s Alex Herron who labeled them one of the best new bands he’s heard.

“Lottery” is a dramatically hard-hitting rock song that showcases how tight this band is. The opening riffs waste no time and immediately starts punching up and gets the energy flowing. The verses have momentum to the chord changes and violent passion behind the vocals. The chorus drops into a ½ time riff with vocal harmonies that is simply epic. The band pushes along and operates like a well-oiled machine. You can watch the video for “Lottery” on our Prime Cuts Playlist on YouTube and follow Phoxjaw on the links below.
