Based out of Chicago, SAYERS, according to Midwest Action, is “a damn fine indie rock band.” Shortly after releasing their first EP, Diogenes Club, the group has performed to a sold out crowd at Schuba’s Tavern and had their new single, “The Arsonist”, featured on WXRT’s Local Anesthetic. SAYERS is a new project from the minds of former members of Chicago’s “pop darlings” Paper Thick Walls and Machine Gun Mojo. Their upcoming debut album, “Horror Stories”, produced and engineered by Rob Bochnick (known as the lead guitarist for Glen Hansard) and Mike Hagler (Wilco, Neko Case), is marked by a four piece of memorable guitar melodies, bombastic vocals, pounding bass and drums, and an unrelenting attack on your dancing shoes.
“The Arsonist” is a song that perfectly alternates between a mellow, moody verse and an exhilarated high-energy hook booming with euphoria. The vocals are deep and soaked in personality with a quirky attitude layered on top. The lead guitar is a lightning bolt of a riff that drives the sound forward while the bass rolls along, solidly holding down the main hook. The drums during the verse are a tight, rock-solid foundation leading way to the explosively thundering chorus that makes the song sound gigantic.
