Lucy Grubb is a 20-year-old singer/songwriter from Norfolk. Her music blends modern Americana with country undertones. After a great start to 2017 supporting her fellow peers Morganway and Sam Coe & The Long Shadows, Lucy went on to play a host of UK Festivals including Glastonbury, Red Rooster and Latitude. Lucy released her debut EP “18 Miles” in November 2017, winning ‘Best UK EP of the Year’ and being named ‘one to watch’ by Belles and Gals. Lucy has set her sights on breaking into the Country scene, releasing her next record for Summer 2018 and heading to Nashville ‘in the near distant future’.
The opening track on “18 Miles” is a song of the same name. It begins with an upbeat country rhythm and one by one; several different sounds and tones of traditional instrumentation are added. Grubb’s voice has a soft quality while also having purpose and determination. The chord progressions are interesting and the song takes unexpected and emotional changes, making its flow very conversational. The chorus has momentum and wraps up nicely with the song’s hook. Each instrument shines in its own way, an acoustic driving the rhythm along with a colorful banjo and expressive electric guitar lines throughout. The drums and bass keep a steady and bouncing base for this strong and original track. You can listen to “18 Miles” and follow Lucy Grubb on the links below.
