TCHUNCK is a French alternative pop duo made up of Karine BZH, a composer and singer, and author/producer Caroline Morlat Mialaret. “Our friendship is beautiful…” says Caroline, “…we get each other totally. I send a text and I receive a composition 2 hours later very often. Fluid. All my intentions are empowered by Karine.” The duo lives in Brittany, France next to the sea. “The water inspires us, the rocks inspire us and carry our moods.” Regarding the name, their website says “The slap “Chtonk” meets the Punk spirit, it becomes Tchunck, a soft variety, dark sometimes, and colorful.” They plan to release a 12-song album in 2020 with more folky acoustic material, and currently have a two song EP available on streaming platforms titled “Eclats de nuit”. The first track is called “Je cours dans ma tete”.
The song begins with dreamy tones and a super groovy beat. There are several layers playing perfectly off of each other with simplicity creating a thick sonic landscape that provides a solid foundation for the beautiful vocals. The mellow atmosphere leads into a dramatic and heavenly chorus that is full of rich vocal harmonies and giant sounding string sections. The steady electro beat keeps the song sounding cool and gives it a dark atmosphere. An eclectic array of instruments gives the track different sounds and qualities throughout, keeping the composition interesting and giving the duo their own unique sound.
The lyrics have themes of restlessness and a desire to run and build something new and explore new avenues that life has to offer. It’s written from the perspective of someone reflecting on their life and examining where they are and where they want to go. A beautiful acoustic guitar is a nice traditional sound matched with the electronic flavor of the beats and syths.
