Travis Shallow is an American singer-songwriter, musician, producer, and poet. a former member of alternative country band A Few Good Liars, with whom he recorded one studio album in 2011 titled, “Battered Wooden Body”. In 2012, Shallow left A Few Good Liars and started writing and recording songs that would later be released as his first solo self-titled album, “Travis Shallow”, to regional critical acclaim in the southeastern United States. Both “Battered Wooden Body” and “Travis Shallow” were recorded at Tweed Recording Studio with Andrew Ratcliffe engineering. After the release of his self-titled album in March 2016, Shallow began performing intimate shows, stripped down with him and an acoustic guitar as well as some national opening spots with Gregg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, and many more. In 2017 Shallow released an 8-track album titled “The Great Divide”.
The albums opening track is also titled “The Great Divide” and is a seven and a half minute soulful country epic. It begins with soft and beautiful string arrangements before a steady and almost tribal drumbeat lays the rhythmic foundation. One by one, harmonized guitars are added, each with their own individual sound while an organ fills in the background with dreamy tones. Shallow’s vocals are strong and passionate delivering the thoughtful lyrics. The sound continues to grow as more instrumentations and harmonies are added, steadily strengthening the tracks buzz. The beat sharpens up and the band goes into a section with a clean dramatic melody.
