Deleo is an indie rock duo from France. Their music has been defined as “aerial and panoramic, dark melodies with spicy pop sounds”. The group consists of a multi-instrumentalist songwriter, Later (Denis NAVARRO) and Mathilde, a young talented singer. Their first single was a beautiful track titled “Cosmic”, and in February 2018 we featured their single “Game Lover”. Since January they have gained over 85K streams on Spotify without any promotion and continue to expand musically and artistically.
“Unfair” begins with a melancholy acoustic guitar setting the tempo and mood. The angelic vocals softly ride on top of the chords, displaying a perfect balance of mellow aloofness and emotional poignancy. The melody takes turns from bright and hopeful to deep and ominous as the music becomes more and more complex, gradually adding instruments and growing into a larger sound. The way the song slowly grows and expands at all of the right spots is very tasteful and patient. When they drop into the second verse the sound is driven forward by tight drums and layered with soft tones and melodic guitar notes. The chorus steadily takes the energy up with vocal harmonies and full sounding instrumentation before dropping back into the simple way they started; with an acoustic guitar and light, ethereal vocals. They build it back up for a moment with a moving piece that is an eloquent way to end the song.
