Nick Goodman is a London born singer songwriter who has worked in the music business since the 1960s. Goodman moved his business to Los Angeles in and continued to work throughout the 1970s. For the past 20 years he has been a Production Designer for music videos and television commercials, and in the early 90’s obtained an MTV Award for the video for Red the Hot Chili Peppers song “Give It Away”. One of the standout tracks on “Wish I Was Here” is the up-tempo country number “I Wish I Was Great”. The song is led in by a twangy electric guitar that is then joined by a full band creating a classic American country sound. The mood is light and fun with lyrics to match. Goodman sings about self-realization and awareness with humor and a playful attitude. He expresses ideas we all have about who we want to be versus who we really are, and learning to accept the reality of the later. He jokingly references celebrities and cultural figures, connecting with his listeners and making the song a good-humored bouncy anthem for the every man. The music behind his message is a clean and tight band playing thought the patient chord progression, the band peppering in licks and riffs on an array of traditional instruments to color in the complex framework of the writing. He takes timeless styles of classic instrumentation and delivers it with modern production and drives it home with relatable ideas about the human experience.
