KOKOWERK – “Friend”

KOKOWERK is a hard-hitting Norwegian rock and roll band, considered a breath of fresh air in their genre. After their first single “Gasoline” was released in January, they were listed as Rock and Roll Music Blog’s (UK) Best New Music of 2018. Next year KOKOWERK is setting off on tour with Sass Jordan, as well as performing at some of the largest Classic Rock festivals in Norway. KOKOWERK’s long awaited self-titled album will see a release date of October 19th, 2018. The album has 9 hard-rockin’ tracks, including the singles “Gasoline”, “Red, White & Blue” and “Friend”, which was released earlier this year. At their album release concert, they were joined by their friends Vincent Flatt’s Easily Led (UK).

The song “Friend” begins with a bouncy and aggressive guitar line that is then joined by the rest of the band playing with forceful enthusiasm. The verse simplifies to the bass and drums in a cool punky groove while the gritty vocals deliver the personal lyrics. The chorus has a fun and celebratory vibe that falls in line with a classic rock anthem the crowd can sing along to. The band flows through the progression of the song tightly, each member holding down their part creating one solid sound amongst them. The song mixes snarky attitude and emotive thoughtful quality to set a unique tone that blends mellow flavor with energetic optimism. The instrumental sections have a percussive and dancy vibe that keeps you bopping along with the beat as the band rips through the melodic phrases. The guitars soar along as the song peaks and the lead vocals sing heartfelt messages that will speak to the human in all of us.
