Cliffs and Caves – “Goodbye for Good”

Cliffs and Caves is Lindsey and Claire Justice, a mother/daughter indie/folk music duo from Texas. Their debut EP, “Hold On”, was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Jamie Candiloro (Ryan Adams, R.E.M., The Eagles) and featured performances by legendary Willie Nelson harmonica player, Mickey Raphael. On February 15, 2019 the pair released their sophomore EP,“Capsize”, on all major streaming platforms. Partnering with producer Chris Jacobie (Penny and Sparrow, Jarrod Dickenson, Duncan Fellows), the duo has created a five song exploration of the musical ingenuity that is created when artistry runs in the family. Americana Highways exclusively premiered Capsize on February 13, 2019 saying, “Overall the songs will hit you emotionally and the EP creates a sense of suspense at those things in life that are often unresolved.”

One of the stand-out tracks on “Capsize” is the mellow and moody “Goodbye for Good”. The song begins with a straightforward shuffling drumbeat and a light, airy acoustic guitar that sets the tone. The vocals have strength to them while still being feminine and melodically beautiful, floating on top of the unique rhythm. There is a steady feeling of tension building in the music as they lead into the emotional chorus. The sound grows while more size and space is added to the tempo, the chord changes take a positive and hopeful turn. The tasteful string sections support the subtle and meaningful vocal harmonies. Lyrically, the duo tells a personal story of a relationship that has reached its end, perfectly matching the musical feeling of the song: sometimes heading into the unknown but ending up in a peaceful resolution. The elegant instrumentation adds depth to the track, but never over reaches the soft and subtle atmosphere they maintain through out the song.
