Ashley Woodruff is a pop/adult contemporary recording artist based out of Sudbury, Ontario who developed a passion for singing and songwriting from a very early age, taking vocal lessons as young as 11. When Ashley was a teenager, she attended Sudbury Secondary School as a vocal music major. She also started competing in the Kiwanis Music Festival, and releasing song covers online. November 2017 saw the release of her self-titled debut album to positive reviews, and Ashley gained more experience performing around Sudbury and other cities. In December 2018, she released a Christmas EP titled, “A Gift For You”. It was also recognized by Canadian Beats, as it appeared on their list of Holiday releases. Woodruff put out three singles in 2019 and most recently released the new late 90’s/early 2000’s inspired single “Looking Back”.
“Looking Back” begins with spacey and heavenly tones before the tight beat drops. Her unique voice has a smooth and classic jazzy style that mixes well with the modern instrumentation. The song has an emotional quality and a dramatic melody that perfectly matches the story she is telling. “This track is about someone fondly reminiscing on a relationship from the past, and knowing even though they loved the other person a lot back then, they had to let them go, because they couldn’t bear the thought of holding someone they love back from following their life dreams.”
The musical hook is super catchy and gives the track a new element and keeps it bumping. It has a rhythmic and groovy backbone to it while adding a layer of depth and extra meaning with the lyrics and powerful music.
